The Hawthorn Foundation is a highly diverse group of Missouri leaders in business, education, economic development, healthcare and labor dedicated to the development of a vibrant economy for the state of Missouri. Hawthorn was created in 1982 by then-Governor Christopher "Kit" Bond to facilitate participation between Missouri-based businesses and community leaders in statewide business recruitment, retention and development efforts. This private investment by some of Missouri’s most prominent business leaders has resulted in the creation of innovative marketing programs and significant gains in industry growth and economic development for the Show-Me state. The money Hawthorn raises from the private sector goes to fund four activities:

  • Trade mission support
  • Economic development marketing and business recruitment through the Missouri Partnership
  • Support for the expansion of Missouri's Innovation Campuses
  • Support and advocacy for the Department of Defense economic footprint in Missouri
