Supporting Missouri internationally
Hawthorn members underwrite the cost of trade mission travel, and diplomatic expenses for the sitting Governor. Hawthorn also provides administrative support for the work of the Trade Office in the Department of Economic Development, including oversight of international conferences on behalf of Missouri.
In FY2014, Missouri entered into a trade agreement with Quebec for $3.2 billion over the next four years. Hawthorn has also supported the Governor on numerous trade missions and most recently to Europe and Canada, which have resulted in over $1.4 million in sales orders by participating companies. Below are some examples of the companies that yielded successful results over the last few years:
- 2011 mission to China: a recreational boat manufacturer realized an increase in export sales $1-2.5 million in the following 12-month period.
- 2013 mission to Taiwan & Korea: a lumber producer met with 14 companies and realized an increase in export sales of $120,000 in the following 12-month period.
- 2013 mission to Europe: an aerospace parts manufacturer met with 13 companies and realized an increase in export sales of $300,000 in the following 12-month period.
