St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce
A Hawthorn Foundation member since 2012.
The St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce represents the City of St. Joseph, Buchanan County, Andrew County and DeKalb County in Northwest Missouri. Since 1862, the Chamber has worked to increase economic development and growth in the St. Joseph area and aims to be the unified voice of business that advocates, promotes and inspires the community. The Chamber is supported by over 1,200 members and provides many resources to both established and new businesses in the region, including economic development assistance, small business assistance and educational programs.
Missouri’s 18-county northwest region has made some big contributions to American society, including the Pony Express and the hog cholera vaccine, which restored prosperity to farms in the early 1900s. More recently, the region put wind energy on the map with the first U.S. community powered solely by wind: RockPort. These seeds of ingenuity created major advances in communications, animal health and alternative energy, which continue to this day at institutions such as Northwest Missouri State University’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and Missouri Western University’s Kit Bond Science and Technology Incubator.
Missouri’s northwest region is also easily traversed via Interstates 29 and 35, as well as several U.S. highways. Four-lane US-36 runs across the state’s entire northern half, providing one of the least congested east-west shipping routes for area businesses.
