Missouri’s northeast region is known for being home to one of the world’s most beloved authors: Mark Twain. But his hometown, Hannibal, is just one of a handful of cities dotting the 16-county area that makes up northeast Missouri. Moberly, located on the region’s western edge, boasts one of state’s biggest municipal parks, the 447-acre Rothwell Park. Kirksville, just north of Moberly, is home to nationally ranked Truman State University, as well as A.T. Still University, the birthplace of osteopathic medicine.

A prolific soybean producer, Missouri’s northeast region has strong manufacturing, food processing and alternative energy industries. Transportation/logistics is also a major asset for the area, with the Mississippi River providing low-cost shipping. Four Class I rail carriers, Interstates 70 and 72 and four-lane Highway 36 all contribute to the area’s advantages.
